Are Thriller Movies Gone?

What happened to movies like Collateral, The Bone Collector, Sicario? Movies that were patiently paced, dark movies where you really had to pay attention to the plot and the writing was top notch? True thrillers where you couldn't look at your phone the whole time. I feel like we either get superheroes, explosion-filled action movie or straight Oscar dramas. Where did that in-between go? Where you could have amazing dialogue and then some really riveting action sequence follow it? Movies like John Wick don't count. Yes, they're incredible action movies that deserve to be seen, but no one watches Wick for its characters and dialogue.

In the past, we've had Prisoners, The Departed, Identity, Inside Man, Man on Fire, Panic Room, Red Dragon, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Where did those big budget, edge of your seat stories go with big name actors in very intense situations? Are audiences just not okay with it? Are they too slow? Are they too dark? Too dark? Doesn't make sense. We have an Evil Dead movie coming out that looks downright disgusting and Terrifier 2 which made back WAY more then its budget (rock on to the filmmakers BTW!) So yeah....why do we only get slashers, action movies and dramas? Why not psychological thrillers? Let's bring back a good, edgy crime thriller. Let's bring back the days of having someone like Cate Blanchett in a dark role where she could really show some new acting chops. She's amazing! I'd love to see her as like a detective solving a murder or hell, maybe even as a villain!

We need to bring back the crime thrillers with big stars and big budgets. There hasn't been a good one in long time.

I LOVE a good action movie. John Wick is brilliant, I love Guardians of the Galaxy. I'm not saying action movies are bad. I just want crime thrillers to be cool again! Big budgets, famous actors, amazing writing and really intense violence.

Alien: Romulus

I should mention, while Alien is my favorite movie franchise of all time-I'm much more of a fan of the original 1979 movie than Cameron's...
