I respect most authors. Even if they write things I dislike. However, I will never, ever stick up for JK Rowling or any other author who spouts hate. My time is valuable. I'll use it to look up people I can actually learn from.
With this fact though, if anyone who is anti-LGBT realizes the error of their ways and begins a journey of self-discovery, and grows a heart, I will forgive them. But, that takes a lot of introspection and I certainly won't 'turn on a dime' for them. It takes real proof.
Forgiveness is so important. But it takes time and effort. I think it's immature of people to think that 'once you're hateful, you always are'. I think humans are deeper than that and deserve more.
Hate speech is awful, and I'll never excuse it. However, I do think love can show itself and people can realize the error of their ways. I wish more people weren't so quick to jump to conclusions and actually give love a chance. Because really, when you're shouting online-sometimes it says more about you than it does about the person you hate.
I've looked at countless interviews with all members of the LGBTQ+ community and have come to my conclusions through looking at them and looking into my own heart. By trying to empathize with people who feel marginalized and who feel hated upon. No one deserves that.
The people who hate any facet of the LGBT+ community, normally have no evidence to support their claims and they're afraid that their preconceived notions of gender and sexuality are being turned around.
Look, as a cisgender male, I know I'm going to get things wrong. I know I might slip up. But guess what? Giving a real effort and actually owning up to your mistakes takes courage. But for me-saying 'hey, I'm sorry I'll try to do better' counts for so, so much. Listening to trans-gender people, my whole world has opened up and has given me so much to care about. I know this stuff because I ask and I question and I'm kind.
Kindness will get you far in life.
I thought I'd bring attention to a you tuber named Jessie Gender. She does amazing videos on what being trans is like and she's taught me a lot. :)
