Why The Strangers Movie Are Among My Favorites In The Horror Genre

Art by: BioGhost50

1- I feel like the concept of them just torturing people mentally is a really great set up. The point of the movies is to one, scare the crap out of you and two, see what people do in really horrible situations.

2-I feel like the violence is never over the top, but quite realistic and only used in certain spots. Which really, makes every act much more visceral and memorable. Really, it's about atmosphere and sound effects and setting and tension. Stuff that's lacking in almost all the major slasher movies.

3- The design of the masks is just creepy-with my favorite being potato sack man.

4- There's no reason for the killing. Unlike Jason, Freddy or Michael, it isn't about people doing drugs and having sex and then dying. The people the strangers go after are normal people with every day problems. Young, old, families, couples...it doesn't matter who you are. Which is I think how psychos would operate.

5- I feel like the actors are always really good, really I mean the victims. They need to emote so much. Liv Tyler and Christina Hendricks were both so good and so was Madelaine Petsch. None of these actors are just 'there to die and scream.' They're given real characters and dialogue. Unlike most slashers were the teens are almost always annoying, the victims in The Strangers universe I always feel bad for. They're real people with real problems. Which means really that the strangers have no motive and no pattern. They're just sick fucks.
