TW: Sexual Assault
While I write about swords gutting people and consensual sex in every position and style...I will never fully describe a rape scene. Actually, I really don't like using SA in my stories at all, especially against women. It feels lazy and it could be seen as 'glorifying' the act. A mere source of 'entertainment' or a twisted form of titillation. When in reality, such a thing shouldn't be. If I ever wrote such a scene, it would be a 'fade to black' situation. I also would do heavy amounts of research on the effects of such a thing and it would be extremely important to the plot. Not just there for 'shock value' or to be 'super edgy'.
I think SA has been used way too liberally in fiction (especially in horror and fantasy) In my opinion, I just don't want to see that kind of violence in graphic detail. They're times when I think we need to pull back and just let our imaginations fill in things. Not just with SA, but with all violence. Actually, it can be way more effective. Not only does the author need to actually think about how to fade to black at a good time, but our imagination is often scarier then anything any writer could conjure up.
